It's good news that a two-disc DVD is to be released on 13 September 2010 to celebrate the life and work of Rory Gallagher. While Rory was a consummate, charismatic, passionate musician and performer, I disagree with some who believe Rory never made a 'definitive' studio album.
I still have fond memories of his first solo album Rory Gallagher (1971) his second album Deuce (1971), and Against the Grain (1975). Quite outstanding albums, full of diverse, remarkable songs, proving Rory was a guitarist and songwriter of the first order.
The first release is titled Ghost Blues on DVD. (I wonder when the footage of Taste's performance at the IOW Festival in 1970 is to be released? - forty years is way too long).
Disc One: "Ghost Blues"
The interviews with The Edge and Bill Wyman are interesting and engaging. Most of the concert footage will be known to Rory's many fans. The documentary contains little of Rory's early childhood, his favourite novels, films, how he relaxed, etc. It is sad Rory is no longer around to write an autobiography covering his life, personal vision, ambitions, music. Hearing it second-hand from some individuals who hardly knew him, is, to say the least, disappointing.
Disc Two: "The Beat Club Sessions"
- Laundromat
- Hands Up
- Sinnerboy
- Just The Smile
- Used To Be
- In Your Town
- Should’ve Learned My Lesson
- Crest Of A Wave
- Tore Down
- Pistol Slapper Blues
- I Don’t Know Where I’m Going
- Going To My Hometown
- I Could’ve Had Religion
- McAvoy Boogie (?!)
- Hoodoo Man
- Messin’ With The Kid
A package worth it just for the 'live' footage of Rory from The Beat Club. An outstanding tribute to a gifted musical artist. Hard to watch without tears of admiration for a genuine musician who played with so much heart, warmth and intensity.

Don't forget it's going to be on Blu-ray. Now if we can only get them to release the Isle of Wight 1970 show! Rory Gallagher: the ultimate Guitar Hero!
Hi milo,
Thanks for passing by and your comments. Couldn't agree more. The release of the IOW show is long overdue.
Rory's playing on the 'live' IOW album is outstanding. Would be great to see footage of Rory soloing on his strat on 'What's Going On', 'Feel So Good', etc.
Regards
Ronnie
